Living Life on the Floor

Just thinking over my journey as a wife, mom, homemaker . . . and how much time I spend on the floor. . .

Picking up toys
Scrubbing dirt
Sorting and organizing
Cleaning spills
Playing with blocks, cars, and trucks
Finding socks and shoes under the couch
Foot rubs after a hard day's work
Reading stories
Grading and filing schoolwork
Crying out to the Father
Bed time routines
Diaper changes
Laughing and tickling
Zipping jackets
Tying shoes
Kneeling in prayer
Digging in cabinets
Finding canned goods in the pantry
Sleep-overs in the living room
Loading another pile of laundry
Kissing boo-boos
Cleaning out closets
Feeling overwhelmed, exhausted
Dealing with the dogs
Searching for lost keys
Reorganizing bookshelves
Putting groceries away
Board games
Painting toenails
Ring around the rosy
Pleading for grace and mercy
Hugs and kisses. . . .
. . . over and over again. . .
more prayer, more tears, more laughs, more prayer. . .

Not always glamorous, not always easy, some days it's downright heart-wrenching, but definitely humbling, stretching, growing, maturing, worth it. . .causing me to lean wholly on Him.

It is in these day-to-day moments that I have found my purpose, what is really important in life: my life on the floor is an offering to the Lord. . . serving my family becomes an act of worship to the Father. It is on the floor that I am humbled and am then able to offer myself as a living sacrifice to Him.

Lord, may I worship you with my whole heart by the way I live my life in my home for my family. May I not lose sight of the calling You've given me and the purpose for which I was called: Your daughter, his wife, their mother--all for Your glory.

  2. Stacie,
I remember thinking that I spent a lot of time on the floor too when my family was young. Now I don't spend as much time on the floor except for when I'm playing with the little guy my daughter nannys for. Some day I hope to spend time on the floor with lots of grandchildren! Enjoy, because it goes by so fast. Blessings to you. Jen

    1. Hi, Jen!
I know that one day I'll miss this time in my life so I am trying to fully embrace it. I hope we both get to spend time on the floor with grandchildren one day!! God bless you.

  3. This is beautiful! I never realized how much time was spent on the floor! Very encouraging! I hear the kids with a bunch of Legos on the floor now, so I'll be thinking of this post about mid afternoon sometime today when I'm crawling on my hands and knees scrutinizing the carpet for the random Lego that missed the bin. Otherwise I'm certain I will find myself on the floor unexpectedly after stepping on one of those little buggers.:) Have a blessed day, on the floor serving Him!;)
