The Baby Turned 1!!!! (And Other Stuff)

In my life this week…
I felt really busy for some reason. I had a few errands to run, a few gifts to make, and a birthday to celebrate. I have to remember that I am 6 months pregnant and make sure that I listen to my body when it is screaming: REST!! So on Friday, I cancelled our trip to the library for history books, had a light homeschool day, and I rested right on the couch in front of the TV for a couple of hours!
In our homeschool this week…
My son has really enjoyed reading The Tale of Squirrel Nutkin by Beatrix Potter.

Use Youtube as a free source to supplement learning. I have found several math songs to help my children with skip counting and math facts.
My favorite thing this week was…

Celebrating JD's 1st BIRTHDAY!!! We had a lot of fun and he was happy.
Our family tradition on the 1st birthday is graham crackers. Yes, graham crackers!! Since they have honey in them, the baby doesn't get to have any until he is 1yr. old. So, the tradition goes that the child born just before the baby gets to give the baby his or her first graham cracker. My son JR (5yrs.), was excited about doing that!
(Sorry there aren't more pics. . ."pregnancy brain" took care of that! At least I have video clips for us to remember as a family!)

A year ago, he looked like this. . .

    Things I’m working on…

A friend of mine invited me to her yearly Christmas party. We each have to bring a dessert and a hand-crafted gift for a gift exchange. I'm thinking I'll make my Auntie's pound cake--it's really good! And, for the gift--I'm thinking I'll crochet a scarf or a small shawl. I'm a bit nervous because crocheting for family and friends is a bit different than crocheting for those I don't know! We'll see how it goes.
I’m reading…

About 4 different books right now! And it's not going very well because I want to read all of them right now! LOL I told the kids we may have a reading day on Monday (which has been dubbed a "Read-a-thon") just so Mommy can join in and get some reading in, too.

I’m cooking…

I made my son's birthday cake this week, using a recipe I found on Pinterest. I decorated it with blue and white icing and some fun birthday candles. It's a one-bowl yellow cake and it was delicious. And, I might add, the cake is completely gone--the family loved it!

    I’m grateful for…

     My big ol' family.
I've heard everything from comments like, "Your children are such a blessing. What a beautiful family!" to things like, "Wow! You have a whole tribe--your kids need name tags."  At the end of the day, it really doesn't matter how large or small a family is. I'm just thankful to be called Mom. And I'm honored because each little one comes from the Hand of God.
     I’m praying for…

    my extended family members.
