Christmas Break Happenings

In my life this week…
A bit of hustle and bustle here and there. I went Christmas shopping for my little ones this past Sunday afternoon. Three stores in 2 1/2 hours was no easy feat for this pregnant lady! When I came home, sweet Husband helped me wrap every single present before the kids came downstairs from their afternoon nap!

The children and I put some finishing touches on our handmade Christmas presents for our extended family, too. Everyone is getting excited as we count down to Christmas Day. I am enjoying watching my children be careful to keep the true meaning of Christmas in their hearts. That is a blessing.

In our homeschool this week…
Well, we are officially on Christmas Break, and have been since Wednesday. We've been on a very light schedule since last Thursday, and worked up to a good stopping point on Monday and Tuesday.

We are reading through A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens as our "read aloud." The kids love my Scrooge voice!

We've been doing some fun little crafts here and there. Here are a couple:

Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share…Don't be afraid to take a break when you need to. This is something I have to constantly remind myself. Burn out is no fun!

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…
Last Saturday, I went to a Christmas dessert party a friend of mine hosted. It was a lot of fun with many delicious desserts and the best cranberry punch ever! It was fun to fellowship with a few other ladies. There was an anonymous gift exchange and I received a mistletoe-scented candle with a candle snuffer!

We went to the post office and stood in a line that went from a few feet in front of the door we entered in, all the way to the counter. (Someone remind me not to do that next year.) But, I'm happy to report that the little care package we sent to my parents arrived safely and in a very timely manner.

I went to the doctor's office for blood work. I had to drink a sugary drink and then get my blood drawn an hour later to check for gestational diabetes. Praise the Lord my results came back normal.

My favorite thing this week was…
Sleeping in!! I've been able to wake up somewhere between 7:30 and 8 each morning, since we're not following our school schedule. My children have been SO wonderful about getting up and starting their morning chores without my prompting, which allows me and the babies (one in the crib and one in the womb) to get a few extra zzzz's.

I’m cooking…
I hope to make a few batches of Christmas cookies tomorrow. I'm planning on making classic sugar cookies as well as gingerbread cookies (per my oldest daughter's request).

I’m grateful for…
A God who calms my fears and for answered prayer.

I’m praying for…
Please, if you feel inclined, pray for a very dear friend of mine who lost her father today. Her name is Kim and she and her family need to be lifted in prayer during this time. The blessing: Her father went home to be with the LORD.

Maybe for next year! ;) Merry Christmas!

  2. Hi Leah!

I used to think that I'd never be able to sleep in, but it's been a welcomed gift. :)

Ugh! I didn't even think about sending the package online. Thanks for the tip!!! I'll have to remember that for next year.

    Merry Christmas, Leah!

  7. Hurray for sleeping in! (a very, very rare thing for this mama!) I loved reading about all of your Christmas crafts and activities. I love crafting with my kids.(and reading Dickens!!!) :)

I saw your request for prayers for your friend on Facebook, and of course I will continue to pray. I lost my daddy just shy of 8 months ago, and it still hurts that he isn't here. I miss him sharing his thoughts on issues and studying the Bible with me. I am glad that the Lord is close to the grieving, because this is hard! Your friend will remain on my prayer list because I know the pain lasts a really long time.
I pray that your family has a very Merry Christmas and the most blessed of New Years!
