Jury Duty, Part 2

Well, I reported for duty. And from 7:30am until 1:30pm, I waited. . .and waited. . .and waited. Then finally I was told: Thank you for your service; you are dismissed! I am glad that the day is done. But, I have a greater appreciation and understanding of how important jurors are to the judicial process.

I also had time to reflect upon how sad court can be. During my lunch hour break, I walked through some of the halls of the court house. There are so many courts for juveniles, family, children, orphans. It is just heartbreaking to think of the types of situations that are presented before the court.

It made me think of the Biblical warnings to Christians to try, if at all possible, to settle matters with one another outside of court. (1 Corinthians 6:1-6) The court and the law certainly has its place in our society, but who is just itching to go to court? Who just wants to go through the legal process? Not many, I'm sure.

So, I reflected and I prayed.
My thoughts on jury duty.

  1. I've done jury duty once (when I was unmarried), and I'll NEVER do it again! Though I was never called on to serve on a jury, I had to appear at the courthouse for two weeks until my time was finished. It was the most nerve-racking two weeks of my life! Courthouses gives me the creeps and I pray that I NEVER have to set foot in one ever again!

  2. Wow, Mara,

Two weeks is a long time! I can certainly understand why you feel that way.

    Take care,
