Book Review: NKJV Ignite (The Bible for Teens)

This Bible is called Ignite as it aims to present God's Word in a fresh way--lighting a fire in the hearts of teens for Christ. The Ignite Bible's theme verse is taken from Jeremiah 20:9b: "His word was in my heart like a burning fire shut up in my bones; I was weary of holding it back, and I could not."
The cover of the Bible is exactly like you see in the picture above, with a raised, textured feel. It has the bright orange flame theme throughout the Bible. I think the color combination is eye-catching and will probably seem "cool" to teens.

Ignite is written in the NKJV translation which I personally like. I was raised on the KJV, but the "old English" language can sometimes be confusing. So, I like NKJV because it is so close to what sounds familiar to my ears, but yet a bit easier to understand.

The layout is not what you would expect from a traditional Bible, which makes it different and fresh. The Bible books (with chapter/verses) are printed on the sides of the pages, rather than the top. What makes it particularly attractive are the special features. For example, "White Hot Topics" and "Flashpoints" are articles on subject areas that some teens may be facing in their lives, such as depression, doubt, substance abuse or selfishness. It also includes "Soul Fuel," which are Bible verses that are noted throughout that teens can memorize.

My only criticism for this Bible would be to put the words of Christ in red. I enjoy the way Christ's words "stand out" when printed that way. At any rate, I would certainly suggest this Bible for a teen or young adult. It helps the reader to see how God's word is relevant for any circumstance in life. In fact, my children even enjoy reading out of it because they think it's "cool" and they are ages 6, 8, and 10!
