Mama's Well, Art & Music, Home Life

In my life this week…
I'm pretty much over my cold--Yay!!! I can breathe through my nose (most of the time) and I can finally taste my food!!

I went to the doctor this week for a prenatal appointment and overall, things are going well, praise God. The baby's heartbeat is strong and it is always a blessing to hear that sound.

In our homeschool this week…
We've been pushing forward. This was our first full week in the new year; we only had school on Thursday and Friday of last week. My son is enjoying his reading time and we've been studying the Vikings in history.

I got some art ideas from Pinterest and this is what we tried:
This is not one of our penguins--Blogger wouldn't let me upload my pics for some reason. (???) But, I thought it was too cute not to share. If you go to the link above, you'll find a template and instructions for making the penguin.

We also tried something new for music called:

Basically, I play a piece of music and the children must be absolutely quiet and unoccupied, so they can focus in on the music. While they're listening, they have to consider the following:

It worked pretty well, give or take a few reminders to JR (5yr/o son) to keep quiet. But they loved the idea and asked to listen to the piece again. We listened to Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 2.

Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share…
I don't know about you, but I am not a naturally artsy/crafty person. But Pinterest has helped me with my, "What on earth will we do for art?" question of the week!

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…
Just regular stuff: doctor's office, grocery store, swim practice, etc. Nothing fancy and exciting this week.

My favorite thing this week was…
My husband cooked dinner yesterday. It's the little things, ladies, the little things! :)

Questions/thoughts I have…
I'm trying to figure out the best way to organize the boys' room, especially with boy #3 on the way. I need to rework the closet and dresser space somehow. I have a couple of ideas swirling around and hopefully the will come to fruition. If these ideas materialize, I'll be sure to share them with you.

Mommy question: Does the "nesting phase" of pregnancy seem to kick in a bit earlier when you're having children close in age?

Things I’m working on…
My homeschool portfolio review is coming up next week. I've been compiling materials and filling out forms.

I’m cooking…
See my favorite thing this week! ;o)

I’m grateful for…
Friendship. My friends, I mean the stick-by-me-through-thick-and-thin, I-can-laugh-cry-and-pray-with-you-about-anything friends, are few. But what a sweet blessing it is.
I am also grateful for the Lord showing me that to have friends, I must first be one. (Proverbs 18:24)

  1. Yes, the nesting state did come earlier for me the closer my children were. :)

  2. Hey Jen!

    I'm glad you stopped by.

I knew I was beginning to nest a bit sooner than usual. I think there's just more to plan for because I'll have 2 in diapers at the same time--yikes!

    Isn't that penquin adorable??

Take care, Jen and hugs right back to you!

  5. This SQUILT time is so interesting. Would you consider doing a guest post on HammockTracks with the specifics of this? I really like the idea and I think my readers would, too. Email me if you are interested. -Savannah (savannahmcqueen@ymail.com)

  6. Savannah,
SQUILT is pretty cool, but this wasn't my idea, so I wouldn't feel comfortable guest posting on it. The idea came from another blog (just click the picture to be taken to the original blog).

    Thanks for offering!
