In my life this week…
In our homeschool this week…
The kids had a day off from school on Monday, due to my jury duty. Then, we had 2 field trips this week, which meant we had to use our Friday "Art/Music/Health" day as a regular school day. The first place we went was to a Wildlife Refuge Center in our area. The kids LOVE going there, and this time I remembered to take pictures. . . but not so much on our second field trip.

We went to a very small local farm and enjoyed a hayride (which by the way was only $1 per person!!! Most farms charge at least $4 per person). I forgot to bring the camera, but the fall foliage was so beautiful. The weather was just right and my kids were completely thrilled. Hopefully we can go back to enjoy one more ride before the fall is over.

Here are pics from the Wildlife Refuge Center. Please note that the animals in the picture were unfortunately killed illegally by people seeking to sell their fur. The Wildlife Center does NOT condone any killing of wild life for sport, fun, or trade. Since the animals perished, they are on display here as teaching tools, so that we are reminded to treat God's creation with more care and respect.

My babies with the mama polar bear. She is HUGE,
    just about 7 feet tall.

SJ and JR looking at an interactive exhibit about wet lands.

TM pushing some to the buttons to see if she can make the "ducks" fly.
The baby was there too, just enjoying the ride.
He looks like he's trying to whistle!  :)

The girls are pretty excited about taking a picture with grizzly bear.

JR standing next to the grizzly bear.
He's completely uninterested in taking the picture (or the bear for that matter!)
because he thinks his sisters are going to see the wolves without him.

My kids under a very pretty tree.
    I am inspired by…
The Bible. . .the very Word of God.
My favorite thing this week was…
Hearing my baby boy say, "Mama," with a smile.
What’s working/not working for us…
We love going to library!! But, I always have such trouble renewing
all of the books on time! It's like I can't keep up and something always seems to be due.
The library has been invaluable to us, especially for history, but my goodness--I need a system!
    Help!!
Questions/thoughts I have…
Why do so many Christians feel like they "must" vote, even when they feel a conflict of interest, even when they don't think either choice for President is in line with the Word of God?
I say, if it doesn't fall in line with the Word of God, then we as Christians, we must reject it and cannot support it in any way. . .period. No dilemma, no uncertainty, no "choosing the lesser of 2 evils." We are held accountable to God for everything we do (including voting). My thought is, vote for those issues and people who clearly fall in line with the Word of God and leave the rest up to Him. He is more than capable to handle EVERY one of our needs.

In other news, I'll be so glad when the election is complete. I don't think I can take another commercial that's been "approved" by someone. :o)

    Things I’m working on…
I'm trying to crochet a tic-tac-toe game for my children. I also hope to compile a list of projects to try for homemade Christmas gifts.
I’m reading…
I’m cooking…
Actually, I'm not cooking right now.
Husband just made a big ol' pot of chili for the weekend!
    It tastes so good!!!
I’m grateful for…
God's forgiveness and all of the Grace and Mercy He has poured into my life.
I’m praying for…
    . . .  safety and protection.

Well, I reported for duty. And from 7:30am until 1:30pm, I waited. . .and waited. . .and waited. Then finally I was told: Thank you for your service; you are dismissed! I am glad that the day is done. But, I have a greater appreciation and understanding of how important jurors are to the judicial process.

I also had time to reflect upon how sad court can be. During my lunch hour break, I walked through some of the halls of the court house. There are so many courts for juveniles, family, children, orphans. It is just heartbreaking to think of the types of situations that are presented before the court.

It made me think of the Biblical warnings to Christians to try, if at all possible, to settle matters with one another outside of court. (1 Corinthians 6:1-6) The court and the law certainly has its place in our society, but who is just itching to go to court? Who just wants to go through the legal process? Not many, I'm sure.

So, I reflected and I prayed.
My thoughts on jury duty.

Jury Duty, Part 2

*SIGH*

Jury duty. Just not the way I wanted to spend my Monday. I was hoping so badly that my group wasn't selected to come in. But, it was. *SIGH*

I'm trying to focus on the positives:
-My husband is glad to have an extra day of rest from work.
-My children and husband are thrilled to spend the day together, and Daddy with children is always a good thing.
-Thankful that I know my children are in wonderful hands.

I'm hoping that it is just for the day, as this season in my life is pretty busy. But, who doesn't say that when they're summonsed to jury duty?

In the meantime, I've packed a lunch and snacks for myself, and prepped baby's things for the day (to make it easier on Dad). I have a magazine, a book, and a crochet project to keep me busy in case there's a long wait. My husband has helped out in a sweet way by buying my favorite salad for me (some I ate at dinner, the rest is part of my lunch tomorrow). And he also bought the kids pizza which they will enjoy for lunch tomorrow!

The kids are so sweet. They're like, "Mommy, we'll miss you. Are you going to spend the night there? Is it a long road away?" :) But what's even funnier is that they are really celebrating because they get a Monday off from homeschool to play and have fun with their Dad. The thought of that makes me smile.

So, I will try to hold on to that thought while at the courthouse.

In my life this week…
Just the regular happy bustle of home life. . .cooking, cleaning, children and the like. I'm blessed to be a wife to a loving Husband, who is yearns to do the will of God. He'll tell you that he's not perfect, but I am thankful for a willing heart. I also shared this week how God has blessed our family: we're expecting another bundle of joy and we are so grateful for God's Grace.
In our homeschool this week…

Lots of good solid work. My girls are moving into new Math books; they're my little math machines. My son has just 8 lessons left in his reading book and he has become quite the reader! We've also collected and pressed leaves from the back yard. We are attempting to preserve the leaves using Modge Podge, so that we can decorate the house with them.

Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share…
There are SO MANY tips and tricks for homeschooling on Pinterest. I am totally a fan! BUT, keep in mind, not everything you find will work for you. :) I found this out from experience!
I am inspired by…
. . . people who believe in me, stick by me, and celebrate with me.

My favorite thing this week was…
Well, this actually happened a few weeks ago, but I still want to share. I was putting my older son (5yrs.) to bed and I said, "Good night. I love you." He said, "Mommy, I want to tell you that I love everything about you." Talk about a Mama's heart melting!!!!!
What’s working for us…
Our chore system is working pretty well for us. I'm so glad we started using it this summer, especially now. Our youngest babe is just 10 months old, and with another on one the way, having a chore system has been a blessing to our home. My children (especially my girls--9 & 7yrs) are a BIG help to me in so many ways!
Things I’m working on…
I'm beginning to brainstorm for the upcoming holiday season. I want to try a few new dishes for Thanksgiving and I want to give more handmade gifts during Christmas.
I finally finished crocheting my fall wrap! I used yarn I had left over from a blanket I'd made along with yarn I'd originally purchased for a different project. The yarns complemented each other well. Here's a look:

The colors might be hard to see. . just think fall blues, browns, golds, oranges!
My daughter wanted to model it, too! :)

    I’m cooking…
I made a cream cheese pumpkin bread this week and it was a winner! Click the picture for the recipe (I found it on Pinterest.)

This is certainly not my picture above, but it is from the original source. But, mine came out just as beautiful, except I can't show you because my family and I have already eaten half of it!
Some notes about the recipe: 1)It calls for cloves and ginger, and I don't have either of those. I used all spice as a substitute for both and it turned out great! 2)It says to divide the batter between 3 mini-loaf pans and I don't have those either. So, I just used a regular sized loaf pan and it turned out just fine!

I’m grateful for
. . .my faith in Jesus.
I’m praying for…

. . . my brother.

Yes! We need people to stand for Him.

    .

Hello there, Ladies!

I am so honored to share with you all the blessing God has given to our family. He has allowed life to grace my womb again, and I am still in awe of a Mighty God.

I am in the fourth month and the various challenges of morning sickness have passed. I have a bit more energy and am hoping to get back to posting here more often. For some reason, blogging and morning sickness don't work well together for me. So, that is why I my posts have been a bit sparse the last few months.

At any rate, God has been good to us and has brought us a mighty long way. . . undeserved mercy and grace. He is awesome. My family and I feel grateful and blessed beyond words. My husband and children all think the baby is a girl.  I, on the other hand, have no "motherly intuition" either way, which makes me think they're right. Of course, we will all be happy either way, as we are simply blessed to be in this situation again.

To God be the glory!
It was the middle of the night and Husband and I were in bed. I was sound asleep; he was lying next to me, quietly thinking, as is his way sometimes. At any rate, a noise startled both of us (it woke me up and broke his train of thought) and for some reason, it was flat out HILARIOUS. Try as I might to block it out and go back to sleep, I got a case of the giggles instead. What didn't help was that my husband started laughing too, and making jokes about the situation.

So there we were, giggling, laughing, and whispering like crazy. I was worried that we might wake the children because we were laughing so much! My husband isn't one that always knows how to laugh quietly. And anyone that knows him will tell you that his laugh alone will make you want to laugh, too--even if you don't know what he's laughing about. We were in pretty bad shape!

It took about 10-15 minutes or so before we could gather ourselves enough to stop all of the fun we were having. We finally went to sleep, and had a peaceful night's rest. That night's fun and laughter made me think of this:

I looked at my blog today and was shocked to see that my last post was on September 17th! We have been happily busy over here in the "No Idle Bread" household and I must say that God is good. Here is a bit of an update . . .

My children have been working diligently at their school work and chores around the house. They are really reading everything they get their hands on! LOL I usually try to read a few chapters ahead of them if it's a book I even read yet. But I can barely stay ahead of them! According to the kids, they are having fun and I am blessed by that. Here are some books we've been reading. . .

Meet Addy: An American Girl (The American Girls Collection Book 1)
King Arthur and His Knights of the Round Table (Illustrated Junior Library)

Little House on the Prairie (Full Color)

By Robert McCloskey: Blueberries for Sal (Viking Kestrel picture books)
The Tale of Peter Rabbit

My little baby boy is a few days shy of 10 months old and WOW has time flown by! He is trying so desperately to walk. My 3 older children didn't walk until after their 1st birthdays, and none of them crawled. This little guy, on the other hand, is crawling EVERYWHERE, pulling up on EVERYTHING and is even climbing the stairs!!! He definitely keeps me on my toes. :o)

The weather has changed and fall is certainly in the air. I've decorated my home for the season--I love fall! It is my favorite season--pumpkin spice, candles, apples, baking, orange/red leaves, my favorite tea. . .just a few things I usually enjoy about this season. Some things I haven't yet delved into like I've wanted (such as baking and apple picking), but hopefully I will soon.

I've been crocheting a fall wrap to wear this year and I'm just about finished with it (see below). I also hope to soon crochet a few toys for my girls as Christmas presents (teacups, pastries, dolls, etc.).

My dear Husband is also doing well. Often us Moms talk alot about home and children, but hubby is special, too! ;o) He's been working so hard and I am encouraging him to take a vacation. I am so blessed to have a man who works hard to provide for his family. But, I have to remind him that God approves of rest when we need it, and that taking a break isn't being lazy. My sweetheart, he knows that and he's working on it! (LOL)

Well, I hope to have more to share in the coming days. . .
