Laundry Day
Today it's cool outside, cloudy and rainy. *SIGH* Blah, blah, blah! The big thing on my "to-do" list today: Laundry. Good ol' laundry. All this laundry to wash, dry, fold, and put away. *SIGH*
But should I *SIGH* or cheer? Cheer?! Over laundry?! The dirty, smelly, laundry?!
YES--ABSOLUTELY!!! Why?
Because in the midst of those piles of stinky clothes, I am reminded that my family has clothes to wear each and every day. I am reminded that I can walk all the way downstairs (sarcasm) to my own laundry room to do my laundry. I am reminded of fun times: grass stains from kids playing outside, smudges of BBQ sauce from a family cookout, and even sweat stains from a hard-working Husband.
I am reminded that I should count each and every one of my blessings, no matter how small or insignificant they may be. As an old song says, "Everything that happened to me that was good, God did it!"
So yes, I will cheer, and offer praise to the Most High for all of my laundry because I know that I am blessed and I now feel thankful. How was I moved from a place of negativity and moodiness to one of gratefulness and contentment?
Meet my inspiration. . .
My 3 yr. old son relaxing. . . . |
. . . and playing in the dirty laundry!! |
As soon as I told him that I had to do the laundry, he immediately said, "Mommy, I can help you!" I said okay. So, he helped me dump the clothes to the bottom of the stairs. Then, he raced downstairs, and jumped in the the pile of clothes to pretend "he was stuck in the mud." He laughed and rolled and played and made all those 3 year old boy sounds (you know the ones, like he's a super hero defeating all the mud monsters)! Suddenly, laundry became an adventure, something to laugh and smile about.
So my moodiness gave way to thanksgiving. Thank God for laundry day.
That's a perfect perspective on one of the mundane tasks in life. :^)
ReplyDeleteAnd He receives the Glory! You are wonderful! What an adorable little laundry helper you have. :)
ReplyDeleteYes ma'am. Oh how we need to be reminded of this.
ReplyDeleteStacie,
ReplyDeleteI had to smile when you mentioned your son defending "mud monsters" in the pile of dirty laundry. I have a feeling that each time you do laundry now, it will never be the same. :)
I enjoyed reading about why you are thankful for laundry. It's something that we don't think about right away. Thank you for the grateful reminder. :)

Mom
Hi Tina,
ReplyDeleteYou're so right. . .it's all about perspective.
Take care!
Hi Anne!
ReplyDeleteI love seeing your comments! Yes, He receives the glory above all else. Thanks for your sweet comment.
Take care!!
Hi there, April,
ReplyDeleteYes ma'am, I agree with you, too. I need to be reminded daily. . .sometimes hourly! But God is good!
Have a great day.
Lady Rose,
ReplyDeleteGuess what? My son asked if there was more laundry to do today so he could play in the mud1 :o)
I'm glad you enjoyed this post. Take care, dear Lady.
Hey Mom,
ReplyDeleteFun times, indeed!!!!!!!!!!
Smooches.
love,
Stacie
OH, I've written about the same thing. I had to use a laundromat for the first 10 years of my marriage, hauling a baby along with all the laundry. When we finally moved into a house and had our own washer and dryer, I said I would be grateful for it and the laundry from then on. That was over 20 years ago. I thank Him every time I do laundry, not just for the machines, but for a family who produces the laundry.
ReplyDeleteI loved the mud monster statement, it made me smile :)
Hi Stacie,
ReplyDelete"Mud Monsters" with sound effects; too cute!!!
I *sigh*, when it's folding time. I count my blessings as well(:
Take care girl!!!
Hi Kristin,
ReplyDeleteThe laundromat was one of the things I thought about when I wrote this post. We used to go back when I was a little girl. I'm so thankful to have a washer and dryer at home.
Take care; glad my post gave you a smile!
Hey Gertha!!
ReplyDeleteYes girl, the sound effects were the funniest! He makes everything some type of adventure.
I'm glad you stopped by.
Talk to you later.
Thanks for your fun and encouraging post. Laundry can be a real drag for me. I try to keep positive about it though. I just giggled when I read about your sweet son and how he made this "chore" a cherished memory. Blessings.
ReplyDeleteHi Jennifer,
ReplyDeleteYes, laundry can be a tricky chore, but my son really helped me to get through it.
I'm glad you stopped by.
Take care!
